OneBeat brings musicians from around the world for a residency and tour program in the U.S. OneBeat is an initiative of the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and produced by Bang on a Can's Found Sound Nation. This fall 25 musicians from around the world develop and share adaptable models for musical collaboration, create new works, and launch a global round-table about how the creative process can bring about a more harmonious world. The Boyle Heights Community Youth Orchestra, led by Suzanne Gindin, gives young students in Boyle Heights the opportunity to play orchestral music. What starts as simple scales on stringed instruments in a beautiful concert where the kids leave feeling accomplished, confident, and happy.

To understand the scientific, academic and real-life importance of arts education Full Frame convenes an expert panel with: Dr. James Catterall, Professor Emeritus at the UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Studies and founder at theCenters for Research on Creativity; Suzanne Gindin, Doctor of Music in Conducting and Founding Director of theBoyle Heights Community Youth Orchestra And Bob Bates, the founder and Artistic Director of Inner-City Arts, an art space serving at-risk children on Los Angeles' skid row since 1989.

The Boyle Heights Community Youth Orchestra is an exciting El Sistema inspired music program for children ages 6-13 in the East LA neighborhood of Boyle Heights. The BHCYO provides lessons, instrument loans, and group performance experience, free of charge, to children who can not otherwise afford music instruction. This is a music for social justice program.
